We are half-way through the year 2018. The first week of July saw launches from smartphone brands like OnePlus , Asus and Samsung . Reliance Industries held its 41st annual general meeting where it announced the next-generation version of JioPhone and its broadband service, Jio GigaFibre . JioPhone 2 announced, is priced at Rs 2,999
At its 41st Annual General Meeting, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) announced the successor JioPhone. Called JioPhone 2, it has been launched at an introductory price of Rs 2,999 starting and will be available starting August 15. The major difference between the original JioPhone and the newly-launched JioPhone 2 is the QWERTY keypad and support for horizontal viewing.
Reliance GigaFibre broadband service announced
Along with the JioPhone 2, Reliance Jio also announced the launch of its fiber-based broadband service. Called the Jio GigaFiber, it has been under testing for about two years now. With claimed speeds of up to 1Gbps, the registrations for the service will start August 15. According to the company, for home users, According to the company, for home users the Jio GigaFibre service would mean ultra high-definition entertainment on large screen TVs, multi-party video conferencing from living room, voice-activated virtual assistants, virtual reality gaming, digital shopping, among others.
Asus Zenfone 5Z with AI camera launched in India, price starts at Rs 29,999
Taiwanese handset maker Asus launched its flagship smartphone Zenfone 5Z in India. The device comes at a starting price of Rs 29,999 and will be exclusively on Flipkart. It comes in three variants based on different RAM and storage capacities. The 4GB RAM+64GB storage variant costs Rs 29,999, while the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage and 8GB RAM + 256GB storage models can be purchased at Rs 32,999 and Rs 36,999 respectively.
OnePlus 6 gets Red colour variant in India
Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus also launched a new colour variant of its latest flagship in the country. Called the OnePlus 6 Red Edition, the device has a metallic Red back panel. Priced at Rs 39,999, the OnePlus 6 Red Edition offers 8GB RAM and 128GB storage configuration. The new edition will go on sale in the country starting July 16. Apart from the new colour, the hardware is identical to the original OnePlus 6.
Samsung Galaxy On6 smartphone with 13MP rear camera launched at Rs 14,490
Samsung launched its latest budget smartphone Samsung Galaxy On6 in India. Called the Samsung Galaxy On6, the device is priced at Rs 14,490 and is exclusively available on Flipkart in Blue colour option.
Gmail app developers reading your emails, claims report
The week also saw a new controversy looming over Google's email service, Gmail. According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, the employees working for the software developers can read the private Gmail messages of any user. The report suggests that about a year ago search giant Google promised that it will not scan the inboxes of Gmail users. But the company has not done anything concrete in order to protect the Gmail inboxes obtained by the third party software developers.
